Introduction to Mirto di Sardegna ice cream
Follow this quick guide to make fresh, quality homemade myrtle-flavored ice cream. We will use our artisanal Fondente e Mirto spreadable cream, a one-of-a-kind spreadable cream.
Myrtle is a shrubby plant of the family Myrtaceae , typical of the Mediterranean scrub. In Italy the land par excellence of Myrtle is Sardinia . Famous for its liqueur, essential oils with incredible medicinal and aromatic properties are also extracted from Myrtle. It boasts balsamic, anti-inflammatory, astringent and antiseptic properties.

The unique taste of myrtle
Myrtle (Myrtus communis) belongs to the Myrtaceae family, which includes hundreds of species, such as the Eucalyptus. The genus Myrtus, on the other hand, is small and consists of only two species:
- Myrtus nivelii , native to the mountainous areas between Algeria and Chad
- Myrtus communis , native to the regions bordering the Mediterranean Sea and also very present in Italy, both in the wild and in cultivation.
Myrtle leaves are aromatic and, only by crumpling them, they give off an intense odor. An essential oil known as myrtle is extracted from the leaves and is used in herbal medicine as an antiseptic, balsamic and also laxative. Myrtle is also widely used in perfumery both as a deodorant or as an ingredient for making soaps.
The dried leaves together with the berries can be used to flavor meat or fish dishes. It is also used as a base for jams, using exclusively myrtle berries, and is often combined with cheese tasting. As already mentioned, and certainly more famous, from the alcoholic maceration of the berries you can obtain myrtle liqueur, known throughout the world as a digestive.

Ingredients for myrtle ice cream
- 500 ml of fresh whipping cream
- 350 g of condensed milk
- 1 spoon (about 30g) - Dark and Myrtle Spreadable Cream
You will need:
- 1 Bowl
- 1 electric mixer or a planetary mixer with whisk
- 1 silicone spatula
- 1 Freezer container
Step-by-step instructions for preparing myrtle ice cream
- Step 1 : In a metal container with high edges, insert the cold cream directly from the refrigerator.
- Step 2 : Whip the cream until stiff peaks form using a stand mixer fitted with a whisk or an electric mixer.

Step 3 : Take the condensed milk.

Step 4 : Add the condensed milk to the whipped cream little by little, mixing well from bottom to top with a silicone spatula, being careful not to dismantle the mixture.

Step 5 : Add the Dark and Myrtle spreadable cream, continuing to mix well until completely absorbed.

Step 6 : Transfer the mixture into a container, keep in the freezer for at least 12 hours and give yourself a break. How about an aperitif accompanied by Shockino chocolate-covered candied fruit ?

Step 7 : After 12 hours, take the ice cream again, leave it at room temperature for about 8/10 minutes and blend again with the electric whisk (or with the planetary mixer): your ice cream will be dense and fragrant and ready to serve. Alternatively, do not put the cream in the bowl, but use it as a topping , directly in the dessert cup .
